Founded in San Francisco, California in 1929, the Daughters of Penelope is the first women’s organization of its kind to be established in the United States. The first members began with the idea to advocate the pursuit of knowledge and higher education and emphasized the importance of family and kindness and love towards one another. Today, the Daughters of Penelope is a leader in philanthropic, educational and cultural activities with local chapters in the United States, Canada and Greece and Sister Chapters in Australia and New Zealand.
